Don’t Touch That! It has gluten in it!

Touch it you say? I thought if I monitored what I ate I would be ok! So did I and after 7 almost 8 years on a perfect diet, I thought I was being 100% compliant about the GF lifestyle. As it turns out from a casual glance at the shampoo bottle, I SUCK with compliance.

It started out with my shampoo and conditioner. I have purple, pink, and red hair so I am at a constant struggle to find a shampoo and conditioner that won’t fade it. For the last two years, I have been using DevaCurl No-Poo and One Condition but when taking a bath the other night I read the side of the bottle and glaringly, there is stood like a slap in the face WHEAT or more specifically Aestivum (Wheat) Peptide and  Avena Sativa (Oat) Peptide. Ok, so at first I wasn’t that worried but it sort of gnawed at me a little bit at a time. I decided to switch haircare products.

After a little research online, I have found that skincare and makeup products containing gluten can cause a range of symptoms including: flaky skin, rashes, redness and puffiness, uncontrollable breakouts, cracking and pitting, headaches, and more. I am sure I just broke the surface but I only had 3 hours to do some research. What is possibly scarier is that I have no symptoms from using wheat on the outside of my body but I can’t help but wonder is it still causing damage to me without my knowledge?

I have temporarily switch to Low-Poo which does not list these gluten-containing ingredients on their label, but I now have an email into the company to find out if any of their products are truly gluten-free. I couldn’t find any info on it anywhere on the web.

I am also contacting M.A.C. (a makeup line I love), Clinique (who’s skincare products I use religiously), Neutrogena, and Bath and Body Works to discover what is truly safe to use. I will post my findings as I get them.
