I would have never believed I would go to an Irish Pub right around the corner from where I work sometimes to find a complete gluten-free menu and a kitchen that has a separate fryer as well.
Monaghans Restaurant and Bar at 48 North Village Ave., Rockville Centre, NY 11570 located just off Sunrise Highway blew me away. I first realized they were gluten-free by a note at the bottom of the regular menu. When I requested the Gluten-Free menu, I was shocked by the amount of food available. It wasn’t simply order without the bun or skip the so and so. They had pasta, gluten-free buns for their burgers, gluten-free beer, and even chicken fingers!!! The waitress explained that the owner’s uncle was diagnosed with Celiac and hence the extensive menu.

It was late and I didn’t want to be picky and order the pasta so I chose the PEI Mussels and Shepard’s Pie. Joe had the burger and fries with onion rings. Both of our meals were outstanding. The serving of Shepard’s Pie was so large, I ended up finishing it for dinner the next night. The broth for the mussels was good enough to drink with a straw. Joe, the ever picky burger and onion ring guy, was just as excited about his food which almost never happens when we choose to eat at a gluten-free place.
I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone gluten-free or anyone who loves gluten laden food. All will be satisfied at this neighborhood restaurant.
