Ted Peter’s Famous Smoked Fish – A St. Petersburg Institution

If you are a fish fan, then Ted Peter’s is a MUST! There are no word to describe their smoked fished, which they happen to be famous for. This place has a long tradition in St. Pete and last I checked is well known outside of The ‘Burg as well. This is one of those places I associate with Pasadena and I can remember over 20 years ago, going there with my mom and dad who were obsessed with their fish. Located at 1350 Pasadena Ave S South Pasadena, FL (727) 381-7931, I have yet to find a website for them. The seating is entirely outdoors, so make sure you are dressed for the weather. I had the privilege to eat there twice while I was down on Florida for work.

The first time I ordered the smoked salmon dinner which was $18.99. That seems like a reasonable price for the dinner but I must explain that there is enough fish and sides to make 2 large dinners. It comes with German Potato Salad which I generally would pass on (but Ted Peter’s makes the BEST) and cole slaw. The staff is incredibly friendly and willing to accommodate any strange eating request. The second time, I ate with my friend Wayne and had the Mahi Mahi dinner (a little cheaper than the salmon) which again had an enormous piece of fish good for two full meals. This was even better than the salmon and Wayne, a not so enthusiastic fish eater, proclaimed the fish “really good.” Their fish comes with a mystery sauce that tastes a little horseradish-y and a little mayo-ish but is delicious.

Other food on their menu includes clam chowder, hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken sandwiches for the non-fish lovers, and a smoked fish spread that I hear is phenomenal.

Anyone traveling to Florida must try Ted Peter’s at least once, it will hook you for life.
